This book took me awhile to pick up because I needed to mentally prepare myself for Daemon, Katy, and the baby. I read the Lux series over 8 years ago and that book was with me during my hardest times and it always felt like I grew up with them so I just needed some time before I read it. I was not disappointed. Their little scenes killed me and when Daemon was telling Adam the story of Princess Snowbird? I completely lost it.

Okay now to the part of the book that I had to set the book down in book jail for a good 20 minutes. Blake Saunders. A name I thought I would never hear again. I was blissfully Blake free for years now and I honestly still have no idea how he survived. As much as I love a good twist I hated this one. I still am having a hard time understanding why he was relevant in the story at all? He added absolutely nothing except for tension within the group. (Sorry Jen but I can’t forgive you for this

It hurts my heart to give a JLA book only 3 stars, but I was disappointed with this installment. It felt like all filler, and Luc and Evie almost seemed like fanfic versions of themselves. Obviously I’ll read the next installment, but this one didn’t really leave me on the edge of my seat like I thought it would.

OMG OMG OMG! This series just keeps getting better and better with each book! I am completely obsessed! Not only are Evie and Luc such a fun couple to read, the plot is so entertaining, I could not put it down!

Now that they are on the run and people are dying left and right, things have gotten extremely really interesting! Evie has really grown throughout the series and I am amazed at her strength! She is the strongest female in the series, well except Kat of course. (Kat will always be near and dear to my heart! I mean she is obsessed with books, what’s not to love?) I mean this girl has suffered through more than anyone should and she still is pushing through. Girl is badass!

Luc was also such a sexy and steamy specimen in this book. Their scenes together are explosive and I just can’t get enough! I’m obsessed with his pick up lines and when he calls Evie Peaches. BE STILL MY HEART! My heart also glows when he just tells her to just be here and doesn’t expect anything else. He may be just a tad possessive and obsessive, but it’s a little understandable given their situation of constantly being in danger.

The plot in this book was extremely action packed and there really was no point where anyone could relax. However, I had a little problem with the community and how they treated Evie. I mean I get her powers are insane and unpredictable, but I thought their rudeness and impoliteness was a little much. I mean their Luxen, they should know how it feels to be feared because of what you are. It took the community much too long to realize this fact and that really irked me.

That ending blew me away and when is the next one out because I will probably die before then! Read this series people! It is amazing.

I was slightly disappointed in this one and that makes me sad. I absolutely have been loving this series and have been waiting for this to come out but I found that it dragged in places and by the end, my excitement level was way down.

Now I'm not sure if I'm just crazy or not, but I thought that when I started to read this series, it was only going to be a trilogy. And honestly, it probably should have stayed that way. The pacing was way off in this book. Not a whole lot happened and it was mostly just talking about Evie's powers and training. All of the action happened at the end and coming off of a book that was building to something, this just took that momentum and crashed it.

Another issue I had was the relationship between Evie and Luc. I didn't love it as much as I had in the previous books. It felt extremely codependent and unhealthy. They had no real conversations save for maybe one - and in an almost 500 page book full of just talking, that's bad. It was all, I love you and you're the best and you're amazing. We get it. You love each other. Now let's move on. I miss the humor and the sarcastic banter the two had. Yes, the plot is getting more serious but this book is supposed to have taken place right after the last yet it felt like they were all completely different people.

I love Armentrout and her writing. And I do love this series. This one just didn't quite do it for me like the others. But I do look forward to the conclusion and hope Armentrout can bring it around, which I fully believe she can.

******Initial Reaction******
I am so angry at this cover. Why the hell would they just change the covers with only one book left in the series to publish? Now my hardcover set won't match AT ALL. Also I do not like the new covers. the original covers are so much prettier. So frustrating.

I’ve loved all of this series and was actually pretty glad to hear that this wasn’t going to be the final book in the series. Although knowing that it wasn’t the last one also meant that I knew it would have a cliffhanger. And as I just finished with that major cliffhanger, I don’t know how I’m going to wait another year. As usual it is hard to write a review about the third book in a series where all the books so far have had cliffhangers and not spoil for others who haven’t read yet. But I'll do my best!

Now, I’ve always talked about how much I love Daemon Black, and how even though I love Luc in this series, I still was feeling more for Daemon. But this book Luc totally took over and kept me thinking about him and Evie/Nadia the whole time. What I really liked about this book is all the things we learned about what created Evie, as well as even more about Luc’s past, not to mention even more just about the Luxen and Arum themselves. Now when I read the book before this, I was kind of excited that my city had a big part in that story. Well, now that part of the story feels even more real, although on a larger scale, because it had to do with a mysterious flu type of virus/disease. COVID-19 anyone? Now I had some little inklings of things as the story went along that could possibly be where the cliffhanger of this book might end up. And I was actually right about one of those little thoughts I had. But as usual, Armentrout kept me guessing the whole time, throwing other things out, other things that did actually fill in the bits and pieces that led to where that one aspect of the story finally exploded.

Now, I read a lot, and I know a lot of you read more than I do. But suffice it to say that this book was really good, because I got behind in reading, and it was 450 pages I had three days to read. I read about 275 of those pages the last day. And it wasn’t like I had to force myself to keep reading. Nope, the minute I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down, and really only did that when I’d get interrupted by something.

I know we’ve all been wanting a time machine to jump past the year 2020 to hopefully be done with all the pandemic craziness, but I’m going to need that just to get to where book 4 is ready for me to read. I say that, but then there is the third book in the Harbinger series by Armentrout that comes out next summer, so I guess I would want to stop the time machine so I could get that one right away too. And it’s not like there isn’t the new Blood and Ash series she started this year, that I have the first one sitting on my shelf waiting to read. So I’ll live I guess. But let’s finish up this review by saying again how much I love, love, love, LOVED this book!
