Not for me. Pretty mental health 101 with a big focus, at least in the part I listened to, on CBT. I added this book to my tbr at the same time that I added a bunch of books on adult autism from a list. I think I assumed this also had to do with autism, but nope. Sure doesn't.

No self-help book is going to suddenly cure any problems you may have, so that's important to remember when rating these. There were lots of helpful tips in this book, and plenty of moments where I though "omg that describes me so well!" There were a few points that frustrated me, especially the use of the she/her pronouns a lot in the relationship chapter. It gave the impression that it was an issue to be addressed by only one gender.

“The thing about the human brain is that, when you believe something, the brain will scan the environment for any signs that the belief is true.”
➽ Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? is a nonfiction book about navigating mental health and life's challenges. Clinical psychologist Dr. Julie Smith draws on her knowledge as a therapist in order to give advice about how to cope with challenging situations. I liked how accessible her writing was, as it's easy to understand for anyone who's looking to learn more about mental health. From coping mechanisms to dealing with emotions and handling motivation, the author covers a broad range of topics. I'd consider this a good introduction guide, but for me personally, it didn't go deep enough. I think it's because I was already familiar with a lot of the topics and advice that was given. Therefore, this book would probably be best for complete beginners!

The first few and final chapters of the book were extremely informative and helpful to me, as it walks you through the process of understanding a large number of things that are important to you. It also increases knowledge of specific concepts, beliefs, and myths related to mental health. It's one that I can always get back from the various exercises.
