Not sure what I was expecting. Picked it up to fill a task for the seasonal challenge.

Got to page 79. I'm really surprised. This is the second book that I haven't finished this week! That is a record for me. I NEVER stop books. This was just too boring. I knew already that I wasn't going to continue the series so I just stopped while I was ahead. Nothing was happening! After the fire, which was very early in the book, nothing was happening! I just couldn't do it. Sorry.

While Jackie Mitchard is one of my favorite authors, as an adult, I just couldn't get into this novel. Some ya books are equally appealing to adults, but this is not one of them. The story is about twins born on different days - one on new years eve and the other on new years day. After a fire on their 13th birthday, one develops the ability to see the future while the other can see the past in dreams. As a ya novel, they are focused on one singular problem, a boy who is threatening animals and girls and appears to be a sociopath of some kind. I would recommend this book for young adults, but not for adults. The story is a bit too plodding and predictable to really keep my interest. The ending was a bit trite and the final chapter too neatly tied up to interest me in reading the sequels.

Didn't finish it. It wasn't keeping my attention. Maybe somewhere down the line if I'm bored enough and have nothing else to read, I'll check it out again.

Oh my GOSH this was FABULOUS! I could not put it down. I'm talking leave off all other books, read during breakfast, read while cycling, read on the ten-minute drive to your friend's house, stay up till 11 reading and then put it down so you can get up in the morning. This is a one-more-minute-please kind of book. (Please read to the end before deciding to read it.)
Having gotten my enthusiasm out of the way, I would like to point out that it is definitely not a kid book. The main plot was about a psychopath who kills dogs and rapes girls, and there is swearing. Srsly not for kids, more of an adult book.
However, Merry and Mally's telepathy is fascinating. I very nearly said "laybite" earlier today (part of their twin language.)

SPOILER ALERT

One thing I did have a problem with was the crisis and the end. I thought since most of the story revolves around their twin connection, they should have literally been there together, not just Merry. It made Mally seem less important. I thought David should have caught Merry alone and Mally should have heard her and run off the field and they should have faced him together. The way it is, Merry even says, "You know, Mallory? You're so tough. But you weren't here. You didn't heat the disgusting things he said..." And I agreed. It felt like the author was trying to balance that with the way Mally suffered alone with the power at first. But Merry figured out that it was real, and felt what Mally felt. And nothing like David is (hopefully) going to happen to Mally to balance it again. I really didn't think it needed to just be Merry.

All in all, it was very good.

I'd never read any of Mitchard's fiction before -- just some of her essays on adoption, which I really liked. I think this is supposed to be YA but it felt a little young. It's a fun, suspenseful story about twin sisters with a gift for telepathy. Unfortunately you've got to get past the first chapter, in which she introduces you to the characters and beats you over the head with the fact that they are twins, and that they have a bond. Over and over again. I almost quit. Try not to, it's still a good read.

Cute book, the twins are lovable and their neighbors are adorable. I enjoyed it and found it amusing.

interesting premise, but kind of sloppy execution. i know that it's the beginning of a series, but there's really not enough going on to make me want to continue with it. the ending is a let-down, and, while the twins and their mother are more or less fleshed out, the rest of the characters are extremely two-dimensional (or barely introduced at all).
