Fair Warning is. the third novel in the Jack McEvoy series. Jack is a journalist, that is from the Harry Bosch universe, but this novel does not feature Bosch. While this book can be read as a standalone novel, there are spoilers on characters. Michael Connelly takes on the pros and cons of DNA testing in this one. When women are being murdered, the one common trait is that they have recently used a DNA testing company like 23 and Me. Jack is brought into the investigation when one of the woman murdered was someone he slept with in the past. As he starts to look into the case he notices that the data collected from the DNA testing is not being monitored on how it is being used. Soon he finds himself in the crosshair of the killer. I found the novel real interesting as the information on DNA testing was factual, and I have seen many law enforcement agencies use it to find a murderer in cold cases (ie: Golden State Killer). Highly recommend this one.

I'd given Connelly a miss for a while as I got a bit bored with the formula, but it was nice to reacquaint myself on this occasion with his particular brand of writing.

Yes, there's a bit too much technical information which needed editing - though you can skip most of it and still understand the story. I enjoyed the pace of it and the ending was very satisfying.

I love Connelly, who writes with clarity, plots intelligently, and creates convincing, memorable characters. This book, a very up to date and disturbing story revolving around a journalist protagonist, is up to the usual high standards. Now I want to read the two preceding books in this particular series.

Not my favorite character or story in the set. Definitely scary if you've submitted your DNA to one of the testing sites, especially if that site is 23andme, since the name of the site in the book is so similar! If Connelly is noodling with contemporary technology, I cannot wait to see what he does with AI. Connelly is never one to shy from violence, but this one should definitely come with a trigger warning and definitely merits something stronger than the warning that is on it. It skated right up to and maybe a little over what is acceptable to me. I prefer it implied rather than repeated. I am taking a little break from the series (my backwards read of it) for a little while to pick up an author I haven't ever read. ...but I'll be back to finish it when I've recovered sufficiently.
