Interesting, for the historical context if nothing else. I found some of the character development hard to believe, but I did enjoy seeing how women's lives could have been during the American Civil War.

Seriously I wasn't expecting much since I expected another deflated historical fiction that didn't get its facts right with flat characters and a boring storyline. Boy did it trick me!
Two Girls of Gettysburg was thrilling and a wonderful read. The main characters Lizzie and Rosanna was both different and very loving in every way. Rosanna was slightly more fragile and girlier but her side of things was understandable as was her brief romance with her husband, who I really didn't like, John. I don't like her parents, who were stupid prideful people but I loved her sister and the kids, John and Claire. Lizzie was brave and independent, she could a manage a shop all on her own. I loved Martin to pieces, and I loved Luke when he had been conditioned by the army, her fragile Mother was fragile to a likeable state and the funny little Ben. It was a very good book that I recommend to all historical fiction readers. Lovers of The Queen's Daughter will like this.

I was looking for a possible companion book to The Killer Angels - the girls are having a hard time with all the continuous action. This might be exactly what I was looking for. It gives a good picture of Gettysburg before the battle, the indecision felt by the people, along with the hardships that were a part of the war. It also offers a lot of character development by both Lizzie and Rosanna, along with the romance necessary to hook girls into a book about the Civil War.

I am a huge Civil War history lover, and Gettysburg is my favorite. I used to live near there are would go horseback riding on the trails surrounding the battlefields. I snagged this book when I saw it at the library and could barely put it down to eat!

Even though it is a work of fiction, Lisa Klein does an amazing job of putting in the actual events that happened. The two girls, one Northerner and one a Southern Belle, grab your heart. A must read for any history lovers out there!

I really enjoyed this young adult novel about the events that led up to Gettysburg. I only wish this was written before my family went to the battlefield in high school... I probably would have understood gads more. I like the telling from the girls' perspectives. A story of deep friendship that was split by their loyalty to different sides and how the war cost much more than supplies and men and led to the growth of two fine young ladies.

I would have given this 5 stars if it was a tidge bit faster paced. If you would like a girl to understand the events of Gettysburg... have her read this. Great for school teachers as a supplemental reading. Her history is accurate and has great true life characters scattered through out the book. :)

Lisa Klein's sophomore novel switches from Shakespeare retelling to the American Civil War. I found the novel well-written and interesting, when it was focusing on the Union girl, Lizzie. Most of the novel is told from Lizzie's first-person perspective. Though her character suffered somewhat from telling, not showing, especially in regard to some of Lizzie's more modern beliefs, Lizzie still felt real, especially during the battle sequences. The Confederate girl, Rosanna, tells her side of the story through diary entries, which I did not like as well since I found the language far too flowery. Most Civil War stories I've personally read have focused more on the Southern side, so finding a novel about the North was a treat. The story really gains momentum when the battle of Gettysburg takes place. Overall, a good story for history buffs, with a realistic romance and great attention to historical detail. Like her first novel, this book has beautiful cover art.

I really enjoyed this book. Lisa Klien did her homework, and did it well. In this fictional story the battle of Gettysburg truly comes alive. Its pages are so full of facts and realistic detail that it is hard to believe the book is a work of fiction. I cannot wait to read more of Ms. Klien's work, and upon reading this book my curiosity has sparked and I find myself reading more and more to broaden my knowledge of the civil war and the men and women who were there. If given the chance i would read this book again in a heartbeat.
