"Life is just too short to hate cake."

This book was such a delight and is one of my favorites from Liasson. The hate/love trope is usually one of my favs, and I just adored Colton and Sara's slow burn. All the lovable secondary characters made it even more special, and I'm excited for the next installment.

I really enjoyed this book and want to read the next book in the series. Sara moves back to town to help out with her grandmother who is starting to have memory issues. Along with that is having to face the man who ultimately ended her engagement. Sara is working with her father at his medical practice and Colton is the man in question, who just so happens to be the Chief of Police.

Colton has been carrying a torch for Sara for some time and while he can't help getting under her skin, he really just wants to give it a chance. Some hot and fiery romance, sizzles off the page. A quick read that kept me engaged throughout the book!

After a year away, Sara Langdon is moving back to Angel Falls. She's missed her family and friends and she wants to help care for her grandmother who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but the dissolution of her wedding after she found her fiance, Tagg, had cheated caused Sara to need some space. Now she's back and ready to work alongside her father at his medical practice. Now, the only thing she has to contend with, besides her return adding to the small-town gossip, is the person she holds responsible for the break-up of her would be marriage: Colton Walker.

Colton has changed a lot since high school when he used to antagonize Sara almost non-stop regardless that she was dating his best friend. And ever since what happened at the bachelor party, he knows that Sara wants nothing to do with him. However, these two can't seem to avoid running into each other, and after a shared kiss one night, they both begin to wonder if the very thing they've been looking for has been right in front of them the whole time.

I really love small town settings in my romances and this enemies-to-lovers story embodies all that is charming in a place where everybody knows everyone else and secrets are hard to keep.

The spark between Sara and Colton was so great, I kinda wished that Miranda Liasson had drawn out the initial animosity between the pair a little bit longer before adding in the unavoidable relationship. I loved the backstory between Colton and Sara and the history they share. The fact that hindsight is always 20/20 and sometimes we remember things differently over time. I liked that there were layers involved in Sara and Colton's interactions, like more going on behind the scenes than either one was aware at the time, and it still resonates ten years later. It goes hand-in-hand - and brings it into perspective - with the idea of Sara's grandmother, diagnosed with Alzheimer's, slowly and sadly losing her memories and not always being able to rely on whether she's speaking from the present or from the past.

The Langdon family is predominantly featured in this book and I was very excited to learn that Gabby would be featured next in her own book [b:The Way You Love Me|40143902|The Way You Love Me|Miranda Liasson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1526674282s/40143902.jpg|62278926].

Overall, I really liked this sweet contemporary romance. I think if you're looking for something light and heartwarming, Then There Was You is perfect. I had never read anything else by Miranda Liasson, but she's now definitely on my list of authors to watch.

Dr Sara Langdon put aside her painful personal feelings as she returns to Angel Falls because her grandmother needs her. As the police chief, crossing paths with Colton Walker is always going to be inevitable in this small town but she wasn't expecting it to be so soon after her arrival. In her absence, the man whose actions were the catalyst for her fiancé dumping her before her wedding is a good friend of her brother but her grandmother too.

Angel Falls Police Chief Colton Walker loves his life and works in the small town he calls home. When his best friend's ex-fiancée arrives back to help care for her elderly grandmother he knew he was heading for trouble. Especially when the woman isn't aware of all the facts...the truth.

When you're blamed for causing the break-up and ensuing embarrassment for the bride jilted before her wedding, Colton's coping strategy towards Sara does little to improve their fractured relationship. His actions aggravate her anger towards him until the truths from their high school years are uncovered and changes their attitude and feelings towards each other for the better.

Sworn enemies to lovers, this is a slow burn romance with sexual tension sizzling in the background. The protagonists both struggle to ignore their attraction to each other and use defence mechanisms to try to counteract the draw to each other. With them both basing their attitudes on what they believe to be true of the other, it isn't until Tagg, the person with links to them both that the truth begins to surface. Only he also wants Sara back...

As the first book in this Angel Falls series, The There Was You has established a wonderful foundation for future novels set against this small town backdrop. The secondary characters lend a warm family and community spirit to the proceedings. I really enjoyed how the families of both protagonists complemented them and their tentative relationship as we learn more about them too. Whilst I mostly loved this aspect of the narrative, there's phase in the middle of the novel where I would have preferred more emphasis on Sara and Colton. Overall, I appreciated the sentiment enough to continue and read more from this Angel Falls series and Ms Liasson.

This was my first read by this author but, because I enjoyed this story so much, it won’t be my last.

I fancy a good enemies to lovers romance. I REALLY fancy a GREAT missed opportunity/enemies to lovers/second chance romance!!

Colton was everything I love in a good Hero. Give me a hard-working blue-collar man who has lived a good life and is a genuinely good person, who might be dealing with some baggage over a cocky billionaire any day. Colton has known loss in his life and he struggles with being “good enough” but it’s obvious that he cares about everyone and is more than just good enough he’s deserving of happiness. It just so happens that his happiness might come from his best friends ex-fiancé, Sara.

Sara was burned by her ex-fiancé a year ago, but before that she was burned by his best friend over ten years ago. Back in town to care for her ailing Nona and join her fathers family practice, the last thing she expects to have to deal with is the man she holds responsible for losing her fiancé. Colton and Sara have a past and they’ve never really been on friendly terms, but the feelings their sharing now that she’s returned home are anything but friendly.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a slow but steady burning romance with little angst but plenty of resistance. The way that Sara and Colton slowly give into their feelings while still sort of guarding their hearts was realistic and honest. I love how much of a role their families played in their lives and I can’t wait to see each of their siblings get their HEA’s too. (I hope that’s where this series is going anyways.)

Man, oh man. Aside from the enemies to lovers trope being one of my absolute favorites, the characters just DID it for me! Sara and Colton are my new favs and would it be too much to ask for more of them? They're just too perfect!

I picked this one up at random after I received a copy and it certainly lived up to its front cover blurb because I seriously couldn't put it down! I was so enamored with not only our main couple, but with all of the amazing and lively secondary characters whom I can't wait to read more of!

This one was so full of heart, sharp one-liners and some definite tear-worthy moments. I couldn't recommend it enough!

Thanks to Forever Romance for this free review copy!
.
This super sweet romance has so much small town charm combined with the always-popular long-lost hometown love drama. A female doctor returning to her hometown after being abandoned by her fiancée right before their wedding + the town’s male police chief who was a teenage crush = a delightful cozy reading experience. The family dynamics were wonderful with the addition of Cookie and Nonna, the matriarchs of the two families. I loved how the families banded together to make sure everyone was always being taken care of ❤️
.
Recommended to traditional contemporary romance fans! This is the first book in the new Angel Falls series, with book 2 releasing in January 2019!

This is the story of Sara Langdon and Colton Walker. Sara has moved back home to Angel Falls to spend some time with her grandmother. She is joining her dad's medical practice. She is trying to find herself again after a broken engagement. Colton is the city's police chief. He is a reformed bad boy. He and Sara have never really gotten along. Then an unexpected kiss happens.

I leisurely read this book over a few days. I enjoyed all of it. Family is a big theme in this book. Colton with his grandmother and little sister. Sara working with her father and living with her grandmother. Add in her relationships with her sisters. I liked that this book didn't just focus on the couple, but also on the important people surrounding their lives.

This gorgeous cover is what drew me into reading this book. There is just something about that pop of red that gets me. Then There Was You is my first Miranda Liasson book. I do not think that it will be my last.
