Michael Haller is such an unlikeable main character that it dragged down what could have otherwise been an entertaining suspense story. And that's not an indictment of defense attorneys. That's an indictment of defense attorneys who treat indigent people differently than "franchise" clients.

Matthew McConaughey made a great Mickey Haller in the 2010 Hollywood movie of the novel.

I loved the movie and picked up the book yesterday at a used books store. Unlike the movie, Haller does not have his office but operates from his precious car, the Lincoln. He gets a rich client whom he believes is innocent of his crime. But as he investigates, he find that his client has set a deadly trap for Haller. Raul Levin, the investigator Mickey had hired, has been killed. Mickey believes that his client, Roulet, has killed him. The murder weapon is apparently a Woodsman gun that Mickey inherited from his father. Also the client is not above threatening Haller with regards to the safety of his daughter.

It will take all of his wit and skill to get out of the moral, ethical and legal trap that has been laid for Haller by his client. Haller hopes that he not only survives this case of a lifetime, but is also saved from being disbarred.

An honorary mention goes out to the inexperienced DA, Minton. Josh Lucas portrayed that role to the perfection. Being a Lucas fan, I'd have preferred if he played Haller, but I just hope we get to see more of Minton in the latter books and possible movie sequels.

Josh Lucas plays the DA, Ted Minton

Michael Connelly's Lincoln Lawyer is fast paced, thrilling and always keeps you guessing. This was my first criminal defense novel and it was fantastic. I highly recommend this novel and can't wait to start The Brass Verdict.

While being towards the end of The Law of Innocence I've realized that The Lincoln Lawyer, which was a great, great movie, extremely well played by Matthew McConaughey, was a movie based on Michale Connelly's book. Googled it and sure enough, there it was. So i am taking this opportunity to start this exquisite series from the beginning.

There is a really delicious feeling when you find a new series of books written by an author you love. you know you're in for a treat and it feel so so so good.

The book is really well done and we get to know Mickey close up and personal. Reading about a lawyer versus a LAPD detective is a nice change of gears. The action is happening mainly in court and Connelly, as always, does an amazing job to portray it all in a way that makes the reader feel like he/she has a front line seat.

As I've said before, having extremely intelligent main characters makes the story super enjoyable and the plot twists are so much better for it.

Such an honest depiction of what it's like to be a legal professional, aside from the Client going after you and what not. Working as a legal professional myself, getting Clients to pay and having someone commit is a big part of the job.

In terms of the book, I loved the story, I loved the characters, and I loved the writing style. I was not bored for a single minute. As I had watched the movie before reading the book, I did imagine Matthew McConaughey as the main character which obviously made the book even better.

I can't wait to read more books by Michael Connelly about Mickey Haller.

I had seen the movie over a year ago and liked it very much so I had avoided reading the book. I ended up enjoying the book even more than I liked the movie. This was a great book.

Second reading via audio January 2024. This a classic of the genre! May have enjoyed it even more the second time around!
