Book #16 Read in 2014
Double Click by Lisa Becker

I received an ebook of this copy from the author to review a long time ago and I woefully neglected it....and now that I read it (in one day!) I don't know what took me so long to get to it! Double Click is the sequel to Click: A Love Story, which I loved. These books are told totally in emails...between friends Renee (and her boyfriend Ethan), Shelly, Ashley (and husband Greg), Mark and in this book, Mark's new girlfriend Cassidy. The emails are funny, telling and real. The characters are developed through this format in a way that makes one appreciate Becker's great writing. I recommend these books. I am hoping that there will be a book 3...and if I score a review copy of that one, I promise not to take forever to read it!

Loved it! Shelley is just as dirty and snarky, Renee is the voice of reason while still being a woman, and Marc is so level-headed. Ethan is still around, thank goodness, and Ashley is a sad basket case in this one, but it's all so entertaining. I laughed out loud a bunch of times and read this in just a few hours because I couldn't put it down. Lisa Becker doesn't disappoint!!

The lives of Renee, Shelley, Ashley, Mark and Ethan continue on from Click.

now I have gotten used to the email writing style and used to everyone's "voice" I got straight into this one.

I love the interactions between this group of friends, and while it is still mostly centred around Renee and Ethan we get a lot more of the rest of the characters this time round.

We have love, just, marriage and babies, the ups and downs of family and relationships.

There is laughter, there is sadness. a bit of everything.

You know how we all have that one person who we all are friends with just because they are the partner of another friend..... and how they really annoy the crap out of you? I am sooooo with Shelley when it comes to Cassidy! I would try and avoid her like the plague!

Now, on to read Right Click!

Six months later we pick up where Renee and Ethan left off continuing their relationship. Mark finally has a date, a there is a baby on the way, and a slight change to one of our favorites make for another entertaining story by Lisa Becker.

I enjoyed the follow up story to Click. Written in email form, it was just as delightful as the first book. I think Ethan becomes even more swoon worthy, he is a romantic and very thoughtful where Renee is concerned. Yes they endure hiccups, but the relationship has a very natural feel to it. Look forward to reading more from this author.

Originally reviewed at Books Etc.

A couple of years ago I decided to read Click: An Online Love Story by Lisa Becker because of all the good reviews I had read through a CLP Blog Tour. I didn't love it as much as I had hoped but when Lisa asked if I would read the sequel, Double Click, I was excited because I wanted to find out what happened to the characters. I kept putting it off but I finally read it in one sitting the other day. It was so much fun and I enjoyed it much more than the first book.

I think because I had already spent some time with all the characters in the first book, I had a better idea of what they were like and felt more invested in their lives. I admit that I couldn't really remember what had happened at the end of Click, since I had read it in August 2011. I went back and read the last chapter of the book so I could be reminded of who was with who and where they were at in their lives. Once I got back into the story I remembered that the characters had a lot of fun together and were all really great friends.

Speaking of the friends, I'm glad there wasn't a lot of drama between them (even if Ashley and Shelley don't really get along...think Samantha and Charlotte from SATC). In fact...now that I think about, not a whole lot happened in the novel...maybe that's why it was such a fast read. There were some typical relationship issues, some pregnancy emotional issues, and some secrets but nothing major. The friends were all there for each other, which I loved. Other than the whole no one really liked Mark's new girlfriend thing. Cassidy, said girlfriend, really just seemed to be involved to give Mark someone to be with and provide some humour.

One of the things that had annoyed me about the first book was Shelley's crazy promiscuity. She was always talking about her conquests and it got sort of tiring after awhile. In the sequel, Shelley seemed to calm down a bit. I started to wonder if something was up with her and my hunch ended up being correct! I loved where her story went in the sequel, even if it was a little sad for the girls. (Nothing serious, I promise!)

I really hope Lisa Becker decides to write a third book in the series because I really want to know what happens with the characters after Double Click ended! Every character seems to have their life in order but I'd like to see how things play out for them. I can't say much because I don't want to give things away so I'll just simply say I want another book :) This novel was a fast read but a really enjoyable one. I loved spending time with Renee and her friends and I think other readers would, too.

Happy reading :)

I was sent “Double Click” for review. After having read and reviewed the first book, “Click: An Online Love Story”, I was glad to see this story continue. I can only guess that Lisa has a third book in the works since this one ended at a good point to continue the story further. A lot of my feelings didn’t change from book 1. I still enjoyed the email conversation format but still wish Lisa would throw in some chapters of narration. I would like to get more details about the wedding, meetings, fights, etc. I did find this story a bit funnier than book 1. I enjoyed the “pun-offs” the characters had and several of Renee’s past calamities were down-right funny. My responses to Cassidy’s emails were pretty spot on with Shelley’s responses. Cassidy’s character would have driven me up a wall with her emails. I give “Double Click” 3/5 stars. It was a nice continuance from book 1 and Lisa’s email only format is something unique but I would like more narration and that is my biggest issue. I don’t quite feel the chemistry between Renee and Ethan because it’s nothing but email conversations. I do hope there is a 3rd book because I would like to see where the story ends.

What worked: Remember how I said Click was one of the most original chick-lit novels I’d ever written? When the author approached me about reading the sequel, I couldn’t WAIT to see what else was in store for the characters. Unfortunately it took me a while to sift through my TBR pile enough to squeeze in Double Click but in the end, I was kicking myself for leaving it so long. Straight away, we’re thrown back into the lives of e-mail obsessed friends that will crack you up and wow you with their distinctive binary voices.

Renee is just as fluffy and happy as usual with Ethan, Shelley is still a sharp-tongued minx and Ashley’s as cutting as ever! Yes, my friends were back. But Lisa Becker had introduced the very....testing...Cassidy into the mix. Watching a group’s status quo being thrown out of whack with fresh blood was my favourite part of the story. She means well, bless her, but Cassidy is a bit of a nitwit. It’s just like being involved in the emails yourself because if it were my group of friends, we would react in the EXACT same way as Renee and the gang. Double Click is a happy and hilarious story between friends and an excellent sequel to Click.

I’d hate to give too much away about the story line and reading experience because this book has to be read to be believed. With some spectacular “Reply to All” screw-ups, quotes I’ll remember forever and a good old bitch with girls, you can’t help but read Lisa Becker’s books in one sitting.

What irked: Although the e-mail format works incredibly well for the series, there were points where the characters would discuss previous encounters and it made me itch to get back to the meat of the story. It’s not that I was bored by any means, it just felt like a bit too much information all in one go but then there’s not much you can do about that when it’s e-mails flying back and forth between a group of people.
