Enjoyed this much more than I expected - a good blend of psychology, philosophy and journalism, that also backs up what I've been reading recently on the principles of dialectical behaviour therapy.

A fun ramble through a bunch of thinkers who reckon we should stop trying to be positive the whole damn time. Burkeman is strongest and most amusing when recounting a amusing anecdote or experience. He tried to weave in the theory but it can be a bit jarring. His overall recommendation of a philosophy of lukewarm Stoicism and Buddhism seems about right to me.

Laughed out loud many times through this at the absurdity of how far “positive thinking” has been taken, and the out-there events happening around motivation and positivity - especially in the States. Loved the very dry British take on it all, and a refocus on what’s really important to focus on.
