Really interesting book about how technology works to make us hooked/addicted. Made me understand my own behavior with my phone and apps; I also better understand why apps or websites design/market their product a certain way. I'm curious to read more books about behavior. I'm not reading this as a designer, so I have no idea if his exercises and ideas actually help with app/website design, but as a consumer, I learned a lot about how tech uses behavioral/cognitive insights to shape our behavior.

Great idea but pathetic execution. It reads like a textbook for developing addictive apps rather than an author expressing his views. The views are forced upon the readers and the textbook feel is further enhanced by the various references and recaps at the end of the chapter. This book and idea had the potential of being great business advice (like peter thiel’s zero to one - that was written beautifully) but the author comes off sounding like a know-it-all professor.

Booooring.

Well, to me. Nothing really new psychology wise and I'm not trying to make a habit-forming product, so not much use.

We're, quite deliberately, informed that not all products fall into the 'habit forming' category. It depends on the frequency of usage.

- Habit-forming products often start as nice-to-haves (vitamins) but once the habit is formed, they become must-haves (painkillers).

The way this author details the scarcity effect, simplicity's influence, higher price=more satisfaction, and other cool concepts is very informative yet simple in structure.
You should be wanting to create a product that can actually improve people's lives in some way and also you intend to use yourself.
I love reading business books and may be I enjoy them more or get more out of them because I've studied business. But also I've realized that such books aim to educate people who have not studied business but want to or already have entered the business field.
Accessible, definitely!

Helpful insights for designing (or freeing yourself from) "addicting" products. While most of the insights are basic psychological concepts, I found the greatest value of this book in the specific examples of how companies are applying those principles.

It's a small but great book. As someone who is involved with various aspects of designing user-focused applications, this was like a case study on the 21st-century's start-up culture.

Nir's research on the modern-day software and products is extensive. The hooked model is pretty simple actually. Every statement Nir writes about the hooked model is backed up by relevant contemporary examples and insights from various industry experts.

The prose is great. It's just like a transcript of a Nat Geo documentary.

Amazing easy to understand concepts about building habit forming products. Even if you don’t build digital products it is a good book to read for anyone in business.
