Maybe one of the most boring thrillers I’ve ever read. Had to force myself to finish this. Super predictable.

Kept me turning the page to the page to the end!!

If you like murder mystery this is one you have to read!! Agatha Christie has nothing on her, will be reading all her works.

One Was Lost by Natalie D. Richards was a page turning thriller about a hike gone wrong. As a hiker myself, this book definitely gave me the creeps (but in a good way). This was the perfect spooky vacation read while I was up in the mountains and like the other books of Richards’ I’ve read, was super fast-paced. I love the writing style and the way the characters interact while not knowing who they may or may not be able to trust. While the end didn’t feel as twisty as it could have, I still really enjoyed this book from cover to cover trying to figure out who might have been the murderer among them. Do you think you can figure it out before the reveal? Give it a read and let me know!

I’m a sucker for any horror/thriller that takes place in the woods, forest, mountains, etc. So this one for me was right up my alley.

A very solid 4/5 stars. First time reading this author and I really enjoyed her writing style. Extremely easy to read, likable characters, and most of all - REALLY made you feel like you were lost in the Appalachian.

The only thing that felt lacking for me, was the way it ended. I guess wanted a little more to who/what was causing the mayhem. Otherwise, loved it!

I have mixed feelings about One Was Lost.

On one hand, I was interested the entire time I was reading. I really wanted to know who was behind all of the things that was happening. I didn't figure out who was behind it before the big reveal which is a total plus for me.

However, on the other hand, something was missing. It's hard for me to pinpoint exactly where it fell short, but if I had to guess it would be the lack of depth for the characters. One Was Lost was very action based (and there's nothing wrong with that at all), but I always want to connect to the story. It's hard to do that when your characters feel one dimensional.

As far as the reveal and reasoning behind what was going on to Sera and the others, eh. Not bad, but not fantastic. Again, it needed to be fleshed out more. It was too rushed to really be fulfilling.

Overall, decent book that kept me guessing. Could have been better, but it did hold my attention throughout my time reading it.

A group of teens and two teacher/chaperones go on a wilderness field trip/hike, when the group gets split in two and things start getting deadly. After waking from a drugged sleep, Sera, Lucas, Jude, and Emily find that their teacher is still passed out, their stuff has been taken and ruined, and something isn't right across the river in the other side of the camp. The group realizes that they are being stalked by a murderer. They are in a race against time to save themselves and figure out who is after them.

This is a great creepy novel. Totally gory, but everything any horror fan could want. I thought the main characters felt real. The references to life beyond the current situation were jarring and didn't weave into the story well, but they were a realistic addition. Overall, I was happy with this book.

3.5 - the cheesy romance aspect felt out of place and like filler to make the book longer. The premise of the book sounded amazing, but would have been better if it focused more on the survival aspect and less on the flashbacks to the same. cheesy. moment. Not even different cheesy memories, just one that they kept going back to.

The only word that comes to mind after finishing One Was Lost is 'meh'. And that's not even a word, it's an exclamation that means "expressing a lack of interest or enthusiasm" . I do have to say I read the book in 2 sittings, but that's not a testament to the writing style, world building, or characterisation (all of which were severely lacking). The thing that kept me going was the fast pacing and the mystery/thriller elements that I just couldn't stop thinking about. But in the end, I guessed who the 'killer' was, where the romance was headed, and the neat, wrapped up ending.

So! Would I recommend it? Yes: to 13/14 year old girls who are venturing into the genre of thriller/crime/mystery. No: to anyone else. It was definitely nothing special, and I kind of feel like I wasted hours of my life which are now invested in this stupid book.

Warnings: Some graphic content (blood/dismemberment) but zero sex or death.

Thanks Netgalley for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!!

I love these type of book, thriller/suspense set in difficult and remote situations where the main characters have to fight mother nature, killers or each other, in order to survive . I need MORE!!

This book was quite good, I found it to be a perfect fun easy read for the young adult thriller section. I was on the edge of my seat and every time I HAD to put it down (you know, because I have to feed the kids lol) I could not wait to pick it back up, which I wont lie was only like twice because I devoured it so fast! I found myself completely wrapped up in the story, trying to figure out who was doing what and for what reason, and I was never right.

The felt the writing was good, just enough information, without over sharing to give it away fast and it was just enough creepy and suspense to keep me flipping pages.

Overall I would highly recommend this to my book friends and cant wait for more from this author, I really hope she does more in this area!

Very good book. Plot twist was unseen coming and very interesting. Natalie is one of my favorite authors and never seems to interest and amazing me with her stories/books. I give it a 4/5. Would definitely recommend.
