i kept seeing snippets of this book on instagram and despite having.. a rough relationship with this author’s work, I decided to give it a chance. Yes, the snippets were that good.
The book started off so strong and then it just went downhill, holy f***k.

First and foremost, I hate a music snob. I hate books where characters think that Rock music is the only kind of music. Where they berate any other kind of music and they just wish they were born in an older generation when there was Real Music. Metallica couldn’t have composed the masterpiece that is Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina”. Please.

It eventually became soooo cliche and so irritating. I know author’s sometimes italicize lines that are supposed to be memorable, impactful, deep or whatever the hell. But this author italicized so many fake deep lines that I just got so irritated.

I completely understand why Lennon was upset - she had every right to be but my god. Speak up. Like really speak up. She just whined and whined and italicized. Also, I’m sick of this whole “traitorous” body BS. It seems that heroines bodies and minds are never in sync. Eyeroll.

Also! What is with this trope where the supposed nice guy turns uncharacteristically cruel later on - forcing the H to step in and Fix Things. A heroine can simply just stop liking the second or potential love interest for a myriad of reasons. Or no real reason at all. They don’t always have to turn into absolute jackasses.

The book had SO much potential but it just fell soo flat. I really sat through however many pages just to get THAT kind of ending. I thought it was a joke. I kept flipping the pages waiting for the “Lol just kidding”. If you’re gonna drag out a book, at least do it well. I suppose she’s setting the stage up for the secondary characters to get their own book and maybe things will be explained then but to have us read x amount of pages and familiar and overdone tropes just to end the book that way was downright cruel.

It’s getting 2 stars as opposed to 1 only because the beginning was solid.

Why was this book sitting in my TBR for so long?! I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end! I seriously did not want this book to end at all. I related with Lennon on a more personal level than I have with any other character. I think it’s because she’s a bigger girl, like me, and is self-concious about certain things with herself and her body.

Lennon was picked on all through school, but the only boy who paid any attention to her (mainly because he was somewhat forced to) was Phoenix Walker. Legend and playboy in school and Lennon’s secret obsession. She was dragged into tutoring him to help him graduate so he can live out his dream to become a big time rockstar with his best friend and bandmate, Storm.

With all the time Lennon and Phoenix spent together during, not only their tutoring session, but band rehearsals as well, they became very close and, dare we say, friends?

This book follows the characters throughout their lives growing up and following their dreams. Turns out, some dreams aren’t meant to follow as how you thought they would be. This is the case for Lennon. Her dream was to go to college and live HEA. But, the future did bring Lennon and Phoenix back together… but not how you would expect.

This book had a lot of twists and turns, but ultimately ends with an HEA. I rated this book with a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and for spice, I rate this book

Ironically I have no “words” , this book is already one of my favourite books of 2022 and one of my favourite books ever . I can officially say I would travel cross country to see Sharp Objects and I would definitely be a groupie. I’ve never hated to love a character as much as Phoenix Walker , he truly is an enigma. And as much as I love Phoenix I love Lennon more , she is truly one of my favourite heroines I’ve ever read and I loved her story.

The author could have handled FMC and her experience being bullied for being fat and fatphobia in general so much better. Instead she really continued underlying fatphobia and disordered eating themes in subtext while trying to push a body positive narrative and that doesn't work. The FMC had to lose weight to become desirable as an adult, and she's treated as too fat ie. ugly still but she's a size 10 which is a totally normal size for women. We're supposed to praise the MMC for loving her regardless of her size but he isn't doing anything special and hasn't helped her body dysphoria.

Words are so so beautiful

This book took words and made them all encompassing, like this book has it all.
The friendship, realism and love- both the feel good and wretched pain.
Phoenix and Lenon are such intricate and realistic characters that you can relate to their struggle and decision, it leaves you wondering and experiencing every emotion, and that means the author did an exceptional story telling.
I was intrigued, emotional and ecstastic while going through their journey and i am eager to see what will happen to the other characters.
