The third installment of the I-Team series gave us a feel of what it was like to be a fugitive. A story of a man who spent years in jail on a life imprisonment to cover-up the murder that wasn't his fault but his sister who was separated from him at an early age, abused and raped and rehabilitated by the cops in the juvenile county jail.

Its a story of a man who only wanted to save his sister from the hell that he knew he was headed for, trying to shove the love that he believed he didn't deserve from the reporter Sophie Alton, his high school love. It was heartbreaking, and at the same time it was thrilling. I didn't expect the hardcore action from the second installment but I didn't expect to see such heartbreak without being too sappy in this book.

Clare never fails to amaze me. She is a goddess. She gave a new angle in investigative story and I can't wait to finish the next books.

Audiobook Review

I was pleasantly surprised by this romantic suspense. The story sucked me in almost immediately, and fed me a steady diet of yummy intrigue, danger, and sexiness. The mystery involves an investigative reporter and an escaped convicted killer/decorated Army vet/ex DEA agent who team up to find his missing sister and uncover some shady drug dealings in the process.

I saw a twist or two combing, but what a ride. The story itself is amazing, but the audiobook is on another level. I can’t remember the last time I was this blown away by the narration. Kaleo Griffith, where have you been hiding and can you please narrate more books ASAP? Please and thank you. The story is told in the third person and Kaleo manages to give dozens of characters their own distinct voice. Every. Single. One. He gives a nuanced delivery that is more of a vocal performance than a reading of words. If I closed my eyes I could clearly envision each moment. I can’t believe I haven’t encountered him sooner, but you’d better believe I’ll be looking for more books narrated by him. I’m also interested in reading the other books in the series.

This was another great recommendation from Heroes and Heartbreakers. This is a hard story to read because you come in with absolutely no idea how there’s ever going to be a happily ever after. Marc is serving a life sentence for murder and he kidnaps Sophie, a reporter from the I-Team, from jail to escape. But Marc’s reasons are a big driver for the storyline. For being on the run, there were actually a lot less close call captures than you would think. Marc and Sophie spend a lot of their time in hiding doing research and even though neither of them can figure out how they could have a future, they can’t help falling in love. I couldn’t help routing for them and hoping that they would be able to be happy. This story does also address some pretty tough issues in the detention system that I would hope are fictional but am pretty sure they are not. It shines a light on issues I never would have thought needed addressing but obviously they do. A great read with a beautiful love story that stretches over years.

Another wonderful read by Pamela Clare.

I get so wrapped up in the lives of the characters and I cannot stop reading until the book is over.

Marc and Sophie were wonderful characters. I felt that Sophie had just the right amount of anger and hurt over Marc taking her hostage in the prison break, while at the same time Sophie had a nice balace of remembering and feeling the affection she felt for Marc as a teenager.

One issue I had after reading the previous two novels I didn't have with this one. Both Extreme Exposure and Hard Evidence were too obvious in who the bad guys were. In both I figured out who they were fairly quickly. However in Unlawful Contact I didn't have a clue. I knew they were in law enforcement but that was from information we got in the narrative. So it was a pleasant surprise when I hadn't figured out most of the bad guy players.

Also, I have really loved the secondary characters and seeing the couples and people from the previous books. The epilogues are great, I loved seeing the group being friends and having some time together away from their jobs and the danger.

A third book very disappointing compared to the previous ones ...
Sophie works at the I-Team and specializes in the prison business but when a prisoner escapes and Sophie herself is kidnapped, she discovered that appearances are deceptive and what had started as an ordinary story escape proves to be a much darker and dangerous business ...
I dove into this book with a lot of enthusiasm because of the first two books ... except that it was a HUGE disappointment. The plot was interesting but the characters were not very engaging and not very credible : too many inner questions, illogical decisions and their relationship was too artificial ...
In short, I would try the next book out of curiosity but I'm afraid that this series belongs to these series which became worse and worse as soon as it exceeds the third book ...

Why oh why oh WHY did I wait so long to read this?! I got this from the library yesterday evening and I stayed up until one am to finish it. I didn't care that I would be dragging at work today. I had to keep reading. I had to know what was going to happen. I could not get to the end fast enough to find out if Sophie and Hunt were going to be okay!

Sophie was a great mix of strength and softness. Hunt was a alpha, bad ass who had me swooning from the first time he was on the page at the graduation party all those years ago. And the two of them together were combustible. The journey to the end was one filled with suspense, romance, super hot sexy times and a plot that kept me guessing until the big reveal. And just when I thought it was over the author threw another curve ball. A realistic one but it was still one that left me crying my eyes out. I was all, "OHMYGOD NOOOOOOOOOO!"

But after catching my breath and continuing (though I do admit I was pacing around the living room at that point, debating whether to continue. Talk about a serious punch to the freakin gut) I was rewarded. I also loved seeing the rest of the I-team and catching up with them. Julian was great and I loved how Sophie wanted desperately to protect both Hunt and Julian, most of the time from each other. Julian was so protective of his wife's best friend, doing everything he could to save her when she needed it and help her when she needed that. Tessa still drove me a little bit nuts though. Sophie reminded me more of Kara (the heroine from the 1st in this series) and I think that's why I connected more with Sophie. Sophie wasn't invincible, but she was strong and knew what she wanted. She was willing to sacrifice a lot to have it too. Even if it was just, as she thought, for a little while.

I could go on and on about this book and the fantastic plot and character development but I won't. Instead, I will just say that this series rocks and I can't wait to read more. Even though #2 wasn't a fave, it was still good. (And Julian made it all worth it in the end). I definitely recommend this series if you are looking for smart, sexy, well researched (in terms of plot) romantic suspense.

Thank you Pamela Clare for making me ball like a baby for Hunt, Sophie, what they went through to be together and for the freaking amazing epilogue. It was beautiful, perfect, and I went to sleep with a smile on my face. I might have to re-read this before I return it to the library. And then go buy myself a copy so I can read it again after that. Yeah, I'm serious. It was that good.

The HEA was almost too perfect, and one particular subplot bothered me a lot (it was not the time to be making that choice, and Sophie appeared foolish and selfish). Still, it was a great read, gritty, suspenseful, and passionate. Clare’s journalism background came through, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
