The Cover of this book hooked me, love it. Girl Waits with Gun is a historical fiction novel set in the early 1900's based on the true story of Constance Kopp who was one of the first female deputy sheriffs in the US. The story begins with the three Kopp sisters heading from their farm into town and their buggy is broadsided by an automobile filled with obnoxious group of men. The story follows their attempts to get the driver to take financial responsiblity and pay for the repairs. There is a mystery thrown in that I figured out early in the book. This book should have been at least 100 pages shorter, there was a lot of repetition with same things happening over again. I did like Constance, our narrator and oldest sister. She was a facinating character. Overall, the book was good but not great and I was a little bored during parts.

Very slow. The historical fiction aspect of the novel was somewhat engaging. The Maisie Dobbs series is better.

Terrifically entertaining, and a surprising amount of the material included is based in fact. I went into this book expecting a female-based western based solely on the cover and title, but ended up with an engaging work of historical fiction, which was a very satisfying trade-off. Considering its subject matter, the tone sometimes feels a little too light and breezy, and I never felt much danger or urgency regarding either the Kopp sisters' safety or their dealings with Kaufman. Perhaps this is a testament to Stewart's strong writing of the three sisters, each well-rounded with a distinct personality, and how I felt like they could easily tackle any problem thrown their way with no foe too formidable. I liked how wonderfully everything is set up for future installments at the end and look forward to reading more in this series.

RATING: 4 STARS

Based on a true story about the three Kopp sisters. The three sisters are unmarried as they are into their own interests, driving their brother crazy with worry. Eldest sister, Constance has a secret that middle sister, Norma agrees to keep if it keeps everything the way it is now. Florette, the youngest wants to learn to drive, dance and act. One day, the three drive into the city and are run into by a wealthy silk owner. Not ones to back down, the sisters continue with the lawsuit despite Kauffman's threats. When Kauffman's gang starts to shoot at the family farm and make more menacing threats, the Sheriff calls in reinforcements to protect the Kopps. To protect her family and stop the threat, Constance takes it upon herself to insert herself in danger.

This was a fun historical fiction - lighter than I expected. I really like all the characters but Norma is one of my favourites. I really enjoyed this on audio, and will go straight into the next book.

A light, funny and feministy romp of a novel set in the early 1900s, in which headstrong Constance Kopp and her bevy of unmarried sisters take on a bully of a man who crashes his car into their buggy. What begins as a simple quest for just recompense turns into a new career for Constance, who eventually becomes one of the first-ever female deputy sheriffs. I love how Constance’s assertiveness is paired with a dry sense of humor—I chuckled aloud more than a few times—and the narrator of the audio version absolutely nails her wry, businesslike tone.

I hated Fleurette. I would have given her to the kidnappers the first chance I got.

3 1/2 stars. Constance Kopp lives on a farm with her two sisters leading a fairly mundane life until a silk dye factory owner crashes his car into the sisters’ buggy. Constance is unsuccessful getting the man to pay for damages and he becomes increasingly threatening. Guided by the local sheriff, Constance takes measures to protect herself and her sisters and helps a young mother with her own predicament on the side. Fun and funny, and a quick read.

What a delightful book! I loved the feminist story set in 1914/1915, and each sister had their own personality. I just found something about the book drew me in. And learning that it’s based on true events makes it even better! (read for the Book Riot 2018 Read Harder Challenge - read a western)
