An excellent exploration of what truly makes a monster. The prose is conversational and easy to read while still being flowery and expressive. I love when women commit murder and we STAND WITH THEM like maisie did. maisie was a love character on that note, her and our mc played off each other wonderfully.
I loved these monsterous sapphics! Their rivalry was so fun, and each character was enthralling. Each of the main three really interacted with each other in such fun ways. I found it interesting how instead of giving the characters foils, they gave them parallels (albeit with dogooder morals). I really enjoyed the side conflict between Josef and Kajetan, they have their own poetic angst. One thing that peeved me was the repetitive nature of the plot, the same goal chases the characters from a few chapters in to the very end of the book. It’s a very slow pace, which was constrasted with entertaining characters so it worked.
If you’re reading the book for entertaining characters and overall vibes, you’ll have a blast with this book. It’s an easy and fun read with tons of angst and anticipation. However, if you read for plot, you will probably enjoy it less. Not a bad thing in my opinion, I read the book for the tons of monsterous sapphic pining!
This book really helped to develop an undervalued relationship in the of series. The stakes were perfect, you knew the characters would make it through, but not at what cost. The defeat of nyx was dramatic and climactic. The characters were just as touching as I remember them, and I really enjoyed pipers appearance. The lgbtq+ themes were done to a tee, driving home that who you are can and will change, and it’s all about finding the labels/tools that help you in the moment. Plus the handling of Nicos trauma was touching, I can’t speak to the accuracy, but I found the message sweet.
Overall a very well done return to a beloved series and characters
Wow. Just wow. I’m entirely encapsulated by the characters of this story, they really bring the story together. The heartbreaking recountance of constantas life with Dracula really connects you to her. And I really enjoyed the way it shown to us, through constantas memory. The book is littered with gorgeously written passages, and moments that make you forget this is just ink on paper. I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship between Magdalena, Alexi and Constanta, their love was so pure even after they had endured so much. Their characters are special, and have such vibrant personalities.
This tale of torturous love, trauma, and revenge will be on my mind for a while to come.
