This felt like a pretty standard extreme horror book to me. Not bad or boring by any means, but nothing really stood out. Decent plot, solid horror, and a psychological aspect to boot. Some of the dialogue did feel very unrealistic to me though.

This is a very good story and as a parent, what I’m terrified of. Some scenes in this book can be extremely triggering, so please take that into consideration before reading.

DNF'd at Part 20. The build-up dragged on for far too long. I don't like how Lisa is ignoring the obvious warnings her friends are giving her. Also, he pisses in a bush then walks the girls home. How romantic is that?

Opening scenes are from the father's POV after watching his wife get murdered. The killer has a lock of his daughter's hair matted with blood. A second man comes in the room w/out a mask, he recognizes him. After the first killer slits his throat, mask off. Instantly recognized.

One Month Later
Lisa Quinn(17) Flo Quinn(early 50s) Tony Quinn(54) Sean Knight(18) Jay

First date between Lisa and Sean Knight. Timid, Lisa's first kiss.
Sean's personality does a 180 as he drives away. Calls Jay.
Flo meets Sean first, brings her lilies.
-Lisa notices his seat belt magically disappear on the drive home
-The sprinklers are aimed at the paving stones and walkway
-"Body kept tight by Pilates, yoga, and fitness classes after school" WTF??

went into this blind! I knew people had raved about the book, and also knew of the triggers.

This book made my stomach turn, but probably because I have a daughter of my own. I can’t imagine the things mentioned in this book happening to anyone. It’s sick. Violent at times. I really felt for the main girl, Lisa. I loved/hated Sean. It’s very easy to feel certain ways towards the characters. I found myself supporting a certain character by the end, practically cheering on. It’s hard to grasp the actions in this book actually take place in the world. There was a twist that I personally didn’t see coming that made my jaw drop and had me cussing at a person in the book for their role. The only thing that really bothered me was the repeated use of a word during the attack/assault. But I realize why it was done that way.

All in all, very good book! Definitely one I recommend if you don’t have SA triggers.

Pretty spectacular for an extreme horror. I could not put it down! This was well written for any genre, but especially extreme horror. I was sucked into the story from the beginning. Love me some revenge plotlines.

Before I get slammed for not understanding the way teen girls talk, I have one & she doesn’t talk like this at all. I just found the revenge portion of the book overshadows the cringy bits.

The Boyfriend: Every Parents Worst Nightmare by D E McCluskey was...dark to say the least. And not in a bad way, but it was unexpectedly dark. Some portions of this book almost seemed like borderline torture porn in written form. It made me cringe, and pause to process. But the story kept me captivated, I needed to know how it ended.

I think I caught onto the Jay twist about halfway through the book, so I can't say I was shocked, but enjoyed how the beginning of the book ties into the circumstances surrounding Jays identity and discovery.

Only complaint was odd formatting when it came to emphasis statements. Lots of ! where I wouldn't put them, some were mildly offputting and odd.

4/5.

Maybe some slight spoilers cause wtf??

No thanks. Where are all of these 5 star rave reviews coming from because what in the world?? This book was posted by the author then raved about in a FB psychological thriller group so I was excited for it to be my next read and I was wanted to try something different. The prologue sucked me in but as I continued I was incredibly disappointed. The dialogue between the high school girls is so awkward and cringe. Girls/ women do not talk like that, “Ok girlfriend?”

I have zero triggers so nothing is really shocking to me but the abuse and degradation for pages and pages was just gross. I didn’t get it.

The friendship turned relationship development was extremely odd especially once you find out who Jay is. I just didn’t get it. I regret finishing and it should have just gone to my DNF
