A quick “how-to” and the “why” behind intermittent fasting. The author gathered the research & evidence, the testimonials, and lived an intermittent fasting lifestyle for years and shared what she knew. It was a quick and easy read and I’m eager to begin my fasting journey.

I wouldn’t consider this your complete guide to an Intermittent Fasting lifestyle, but man was she fun. :) The author was charming, real, and at all times validating. She lists off really good books that helped her research IF, so if you’re looking for a deep dive into more hard oxide science—check out those books. But if you just want a light hearted easy read, this was excellent.

OK, this makes so much sense. This feels like something I can actually do. I need a lifestyle change, not a diet. I definitely think using an app that starts and stops your fast is extremely beneficial. I think that over time, this will become unnecessary. However, for now, the competitiveness in me can really get motivated by the silly free app.

I started living this lifestyle the day after I began reading this book. This is for documentation purposes for me. ;)

I am a big fan of IF, and Gin’s podcast- Intermittent Fasting Stories, but this is not the book to read to be informed or motivated about it. She was trying to give a watered down version of Jason Fung’s, The Obesity Code. If I hadn’t read The Obesity Code first, this book would not have convinced me of the benefits of IF.

A lot of the book is about her own diet journey. And she even includes a reading list of all the books she read along the way even though most of them go against the clean fast/ OMAD way of life she is now advocating. That seemed confusing and also just filler- to convince us she had read a lot.

I have pre-ordered her new book. Hoping it is better written and something I can recommend to others.

Holy hell, I ate this book up. Literally, in one sitting. Stephens does an incredible job of breaking down some of those harder-to-read, more science-y books on fasting (like The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung - also a fabulous book). She takes hard concepts and breaks them down into easily digestible chunks that really hit home. She explains how fasting works, how diets and calories in/out don't work, and how fasting has so many more benefits than just weight loss (reversing or lowering chance of disease, lowering chances of cancer, mental clarity, just to name a few). I found this book through listening to her podcast Fast, Feast, Repeat - which I also highly recommend. If ever you were thinking about wanting to lose weight in a sustainable & non-restrictive way, here's your book. Seriously.
