Love Will Cole. This book is more of what he talks about on popular podcasts. It’s informative and a great reference guide. I borrowed it from the library but will buy it to be able to refer back to it.

The info section at the beginning is very good. Recipes didn’t look that tempting or interesting to me. Too many salad-looking recipes.

Decided to give this a listen because I have a friend (heyyy girl) doing the keto diet right now, and I wanted to understand it more. Let it be noted, the author’s take on it is a little different than the standard keto diet (noooo don’t take away the cheese!!).

Will I personally do the keto diet? Nah, I’m not that hardcore. But there were plenty of good takeaways on overall health and wellness, the dangers of the pesticides/toxins in the foods we eat, and facts about herbs/oils/cooking preparation that make me want to do a little more research into food.

January read. I really wanted to give this book one star, but I didn’t feel like that was fair since I didn’t actually try the diet. I had high hopes for this. I suffer from IBS and this book has been highly recommended. My problem with it is the meal plan and not the content. Intermittent fasting is fine, but this book recommends fasting every other day and that alone makes me weary of any of the other advice in this book.

I have a mix of feelings and opinions about this book. I felt the author could be a bit preachy at times, but gave a lot of valuable insight in nutrition and health. At times I felt like my sister was talking to me using words like “grace.” There was definitely a level of touchy-feeliness to it. Also, there were some levels of contradictory between author and things I’ve read about nutrition in the past (especially going under 1300 calories with fasting). Because he is a doctor though, I give him a certain amount of trust.

This book definitely had a lot to gain from and I will integrate a lot of what I learned wisely into my T1 Diabetes lifestyle. I mostly need to sneak a lot more vegetables into my diet.

I appreciate the human approach and lots of information. I've tried more recipes online, haven't gotten too excited about the ones in the book, but the suggested meal plan seems like a cool idea. Not sure I have it in me to truly give the diet a try without my partner on board, but the information makes sense and sounds appealing.

Too much information and not enough recipes. Also, as someone that has been keto for five months the recipes in this book are really carb heavy. I think this book would work best for those doing modified, but not strict keto.

So I don't ever plan to eat fully keto. BUT, I do have Type II diabetes, and I have been struggling to find main-dish recipes that are heavy on the vegetables, that sound tasty, and that aren't afraid of some damn fat. Because I believe good fats are super essential. I super enjoyed the information at the front of the book, and the author's ideas about health, including this one simple line that brought me to a full stop: "You can't heal a body you hate."

Anyway, this book has a lot of recipes that seem completely sensible, based on actual whole foods, and tasty, while being easily adaptable if you don't love all the ingredients.

I'd give him 5 stars but ... vegan cheese? Really? And dude, stop COOKING avocados, that's just gross. But otherwise I'm excited by all the creative, low-carb, plant based recipes.

Lots of good information and easy to see how to implement this diet. I’m tracking my carbs and cutting back now so I can try this without getting a Keto flu. I thought the supplement information was especially helpful. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 as the recipes aren’t the best. I can make my own meal plans and have other recipes to follow but I was disappointed to see so many fish and egg recipes and nothing with tempeh or nuts (like nut cheese).
